DAY 237 - NOVEMBER 13, 2011
You get out of the black Mercedes, in one natural movement, as the rest of the vehicles in the queue idle softly. Several of the truck drivers are also on the road smoking cigarettes and stretching their legs before they have to present themselves to the soldiers. Through the car window you make eye contact with Jeremy and motion with your head for him to get out as well--that the plans have changed and that you are abandoning the car-and-driver tactic all together. Jeremy is outside the black Mercedes equally as fast and you both walk with your backpacks up the rolling crags of the Lebanese mountains, into the hinterlands and away from the Hezbollah checkpoint.
